Project Overview

HDD Drilling Tools supplied a steel pipe cutting ring for a pipe ramming project executed by Dalcai. The ring was designed to fit around a ø 711 mm coated steel pipe and protect its surface during installation in rocky ground conditions.

In trenchless techniques like pipe ramming and auger boring, coated pipes face significant risk of damage from underground obstacles. The steel pipe cutting ring acts as a protective barrier, shielding the anti-corrosion coating from mechanical stress and preventing early degradation of the pipe.

Why use a steel pipe cutting ring?

The cutting ring is a critical component in applications where coated steel pipes are used, especially for gas or utility lines. It:

  • Absorbs impact from rocks or debris
  • Prevents coating damage during pipe ramming
  • Prolongs pipeline life
  • Reduces repair costs

Use Cases Beyond Pipe Ramming

While supplied for a pipe ramming project, similar cutting rings are also used in auger boring and other trenchless drilling methods. In each case, they ensure that the pipe coating remains undamaged, especially in abrasive soil conditions.

  • Diameter of ø 711 mm
  • Used during pipe ramming with potential rock inclusions
  • Protects anti-corrosion coating from physical damage
  • Suitable for auger drilling and pneumatic applications
  • Extends pipeline service life through mechanical protection
